The Mercury Men

SyFy online has recently picked up a web series called The Mercury Men. It's done in b&w and is a really well done project, imho.

http://www.mercuryseries.com/

The site is self-explanatory and has a link to SyFy. I really liked the background goodies on the main site and how they retconned the show as if it had toys and trading cards. Perhaps someday it will, lol. I can already taste their bubblegum.

The first three episodes are up and I was hooked quickly. I couldn't help myself from having a theory about Edward Borman the way episode three rolls out. I really should learn my lesson.

Re: The Mercury Men

Another clue is seen in viewing Jack's journal. A postcard has a 1968 penny taped to it but the one-cent postcard dates to before 1952. Because of the look of Jack's attire dating around the 1930-40's his gal Jane apparently missed her date with Jack because she went to the future. The date of the serial itself is 1975 so it would seem that Jack has also traveled into the future. My theory above is that the ordinary Edward Borman might end up becoming Dr. Tomorrow. As I said, this is a really fun series to get involved with. It was especially fun to watch the latest episode after coming back from seeing the Captain America film.

The year of 1968 is important for many reasons, one of which is the release of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Perhaps more importantly, 1968 is only a year before the first moon landings which is woven into the mythology of the series.

Re: The Mercury Men

I just enjoyed episode six (of ten). I picked up on the trivia that a song heard is from a Broadway musical one hundred years old (1911) this year.

In a bit of a spoiler comment about this episode
Spoiler:
I loved that Edward Borman could not raise anyone on the walkie-talkie but he apparently succeeded in conversing with a television. Love it! I guess Dr. Tomorrow knows how to break the fourth wall (man, he IS good!).

All ten episodes of this web-series is out now. I highly recommend it as it's fun to watch and quite good.
